I finally worked out the HTML code is

Paste this into a text widget in the side bar.
If you do not have a self hosted site then I believe you will need to drag & drop the image onto your desktop & insert like any other media image.

  I think this is where the confusion comes from – the apparent inability to reproduce the HTML code here…. Can you tell me where you found this code on-line? Looking at other people’s comments, and their difficulty, also, in obtaining the code, I think it’s becoming a bit of a holy grail! Thank you so much for your kindness in trying to assist me…. I have tried for over an hour to put the button in my list of badges on the side bar. I can easily insert it as an image in the blog post, but I can not make it show up at all in the side bar. I guess I need the exact code to be able to do it. Suggestions please.

    I’m afraid I am also having difficulty getting the button on my side bar. I’ve been trying what others say, below, but haven’t the correct code. I can paste the button into a blog as an image – great – but not get it to appear as an image in the sidebar of the blog. Any advice to the technically-challenged (and visually impaired) gratefully received!

I copied and pasted it on my desktop, then inserted it like any other image. I also turned it into a clickable link to this blog …. It is pretty simple and don’t be put off that the image is a png not a jpg. Your blog won’t care.

I think you can just save the image to your computer, then use the IMAGE widget provided by WP and paste it into the widget. Don’t label the image or that shows up oddly. I don’t know if that helps…

Please can you help with the text that was omitted from the instructions (#2) for placing the button on the sidebar of our blogs? I also was recently awarded Versatile Blogger and I would like to let my nominees know how to place the badge. Nothing else worked that is in the comments above.

Three steps (wish me luck!):

1.Place a text box in your side bar. Title it “Awards”.

2. Copy and paste the following into the text box:

3. remove the spaces between “”.

Not fancy, but it will work!

You can also upload it to your own library, in which case, WP gives you the source code and you can just replace it in the example above.

    Oh, gosh!! Sorry! In the dashboard, go to Appearance and click on Widgets. It should take you to a page that will let you set up exactly how your page will look.
    
    You have to use a little imagination–it’s not WYSIWIG (what you see is what you get). But it will have a list of widgets you can use, such as text boxes, on the left and whatever side bars, headers and footers you can change on the right. You just drag a widget (text box) into the side bar, then you can start adding info. If you have full HTML for a picture, then you don’t have to have that picture in your library. You can copy and paste the info directly into the text box (which I think is what we were talking about before). Let me know if you need more help.

  Well, I figured out how to add the text box but trying to copy the link results in just the link showing up. And it isn’t even a hot link. No image. The info to copy and paste is missing from this post. So I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be using. I could just save the image but that won’t let it act as a button.

    Yep…as I thought. OK. Replace the first asterisk with a “less than” sign and replace the second asterisk with a “more than” sign. That opens and closes each set of “carat marks”. Unfortunately, when I try to type them in as text, even this forum reads them as HTML.

    Okay, Nevermind, I don’t know how to post it without it dissapearing :/ If you have any buttons on your widget page, look at the html and replace the link with the homepage here and the IMG with the html of when you click on one of the above images. Goodluck!
